The Montenegrin state-owned power utility, EPCG, is advancing its commitment to renewable energy by initiating the construction of the Otilovići small hydropower plant (SHPP). This development follows the recent signing of a turnkey agreement with the local engineering firm Vigoris Ecotech, which encompasses all aspects of project delivery, including detailed design, civil works, equipment supply, installation, testing, and commissioning.

This project was awarded through an open public procurement process and represents a total investment of €6.8 million, excluding VAT. It is part of EPCG’s broader capital investment program aimed at bolstering domestic energy generation capabilities.

The Otilovići plant will incorporate two horizontal Francis turbine units, yielding a combined installed capacity of 3.2 MW. The anticipated annual electricity production is approximately 11 GWh, which is expected to significantly contribute to Montenegro’s national electricity system. EPCG’s CEO, Zdravko Dragaš, highlighted the importance of this project in enhancing domestic generation capacity and furthering the company’s long-term development strategy focused on reliable and sustainable energy sourced locally while adhering to modern technical standards.

Designated as a priority project within EPCG’s strategic framework and Montenegro’s overall hydropower development strategy, SHPP Otilovići is projected to provide electricity for around 1,800 households annually once operational.

Beyond its energy production capabilities, the project is poised to deliver notable environmental advantages, including an estimated annual reduction of approximately 7,600 tons of CO₂ emissions. EPCG asserts that this investment aligns with its ongoing efforts to expand renewable energy assets and enhance supply security while delivering tangible benefits for both citizens and the economy.
