Montenegro’s Environmental Protection Agency has approved the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the Kapino Polje B1 solar power plant. The project is being developed by state-owned utility EPCG. The approval covers a facility planned for the Nikšić area on land designated for solar energy development.
The Agency stated that the environmental study meets national regulatory requirements. It also confirmed that the document includes mitigation measures intended to address potential impacts during both construction and operation. The EIA approval follows a request for a full environmental impact assessment before granting consent.
Project scope and site details
The planned Kapino Polje B1 installation has an installed capacity of 11.43 MW. Project documentation places the site in the Nikšić area and within a designated solar energy development zone. The plant is expected to produce around 15.79 GWh of electricity annually in its first year of operation.
The planned solar installation will cover approximately 160,000 square meters. It will include 19,704 photovoltaic panels. These parameters are described in project documentation submitted for the environmental review process.
Kapino Polje complex and related approvals
Kapino Polje B1 forms part of a broader Kapino Polje solar complex. The wider development includes planned projects B2, L1, and L2. Together, the projects are described as part of EPCG’s strategy to expand renewable generation capacity in Montenegro.
The total value for the Kapino Polje developments is estimated at approximately €35.1 million. Earlier this year, the Government issued urban and technical conditions for the B1 project, preceding the later EIA request by the Environmental Protection Agency.
