Iași Airport has signed a contract with Strabag Romania for the design and construction of a new solar power plant with a battery energy storage system. The project is valued at approximately €3.7 million excluding VAT.
Project capacity, inverter configuration and battery storage
The planned solar installation has an installed capacity of 4.42 MW. Electricity generated by the facility will be converted using 21 string inverters, resulting in a combined AC capacity of 3.15 MW. The system will also include a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 4.73 MWh.
Site footprint and integration with airport electrical systems
The solar facility is expected to cover an area of around 58,500 square meters. It will be integrated into the airport’s existing electrical infrastructure. Beyond generation and storage assets, the scope includes transformers and internal electrical networks. The project also lists security systems, a meteorological station, SCADA equipment, and other supporting infrastructure.
Two-phase delivery schedule under the contract
Implementation under the contract is set to take place in two phases. The design stage is expected to last three months. Construction is scheduled for seven months following the design period.
Planned use of on-site renewable generation
After completion, the system will supply a portion of Iași Airport’s electricity demand through on-site renewable generation. The arrangement is intended to improve energy efficiency and reduce reliance on external power sources.
