Hungary: HUPX sees price increases and slight decline in traded volumes in February 2025

In February 2025, the average price of electricity on the day-ahead market (DAM) of the Hungarian energy exchange HUPX rose to 158.88 euros/MWh, marking a 13% increase compared to January’s average baseload price of 140.19 euros/MWh. The average DAM peak price also saw a 6% rise, reaching 167.33 euros/MWh, up from January’s 158.37 euros/MWh.

Total traded volume on the day-ahead market amounted to 2.49 million MWh, which represents a 6% decline from January’s 2.64 million MWh but a 2% increase compared to February 2024, when the volume was 2.35 million MWh. The average daily traded volume on the DAM for February stood at 88,963 MWh.

On the intraday market, the total traded volume for February was 897,091 MWh, a 3% decrease from January’s 925,723 MWh. The average daily traded volume on the intraday market was 32,039 MWh. Meanwhile, the average price for hourly products in February increased by 11%, reaching 154.58 euros/MWh compared to 139.14 euros/MWh in January.
