Greece: Electricity retail market shows stability with PPC maintaining lead

A recent evaluation by the energy regulator RAAEY has revealed that Greece’s electricity retail market has remained relatively stable from May to October, with only minor changes in supplier rankings across various customer segments and voltage levels.

Public Power Corporation (PPC) has slightly enhanced its market position, serving just over 72% of the national customer base by October. This marks a modest increase since late spring, reaffirming PPC’s robust presence in supplying households and small businesses.

When analyzing the network segments, PPC experienced a slight decline in its low-voltage market share, while its medium-voltage segment saw a more pronounced decrease over the five-month period. Data based on consumption suggests a gradual loss of PPC’s share among medium- and high-voltage users, where competitive pressures are notably stronger.

Protergia has solidified its status as PPC’s primary competitor, capturing a considerable share of demand within the low- and medium-voltage markets. In the high-voltage sector, Protergia has established itself as the leading supplier by electricity consumption, significantly distancing itself from other competitors.

The overall findings indicate a market characterized by continuity rather than upheaval, with PPC maintaining a significant lead in customer numbers. Meanwhile, competing suppliers are increasingly strengthening their positions among energy-intensive users, reflecting a dynamic yet stable retail environment.
