Serbian oil and gas company NIS said it signed on Friday an agreement with Energowind to get a 50% stake in a project for the construction of a 102 megawatt wind farm in the country’s north.
The move is in line with NIS’ strategy through 2020 and the plans for its transformation from a national oil company into a regional energy holding.
The total value of the Plandiste wind farm, including development costs, would amount to approximately 160 million euro ($209 million), NIS said in a statement.
The start of construction is planned for the summer of 2013. Consultations are underway for the selection of equipment suppliers and building contractors.
The wind farm in the municipality of Plandiste will comprise 34 wind turbines that should generate at least 212 gigawatt-hours of electrical power annually to be purchased by state-owned utility Elektroprivreda Srbije.
A potential partner for NIS and Energowind in this undertaking is French company Akuo Energy which is specialized in the implementation of green energy projects, including wind, solar, water, biomass and biofuels. Currently, representatives of Energowind and Akuo Energy are finalizing the terms and conditions for the participation of a third partner in the project.
