Rețele Electrice România plans to invest about €23.5 million, including VAT, in the Cetate substation in Timișoara. The project includes replacement of ageing equipment and expansion of capacity at a site serving more than 25,000 customers. The upgrade is designed to increase available infrastructure for the local grid.
Transformer and switchgear scope
A new 40 MVA transformer will supplement the substation’s existing 65 MVA capacity. Work also covers 110 kV switchgear, along with lower-voltage equipment. A control-room upgrade is included and will be connected to the company’s remote management system.
Financing and project timeline
European funding of around €12.3 million, excluding VAT, will cover part of the investment. Completion is planned within 39 months of the financing agreement taking effect. The investment is intended to improve reliability for existing customers while providing additional capacity for changing demand.
