Austrian renewable energy company Enery has begun construction of a large-scale solar and battery storage complex in southern Romania. The development is located in Giurgiu County, near Ogrezeni. The project is valued at more than €460 million.
The facility includes a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 750 MW. It also features a battery energy storage system with storage capability exceeding 1 GWh. The combined total installed capacity is 761 MW.
Solar and battery configuration
The integrated layout is designed to pair large-scale solar generation with battery storage. Excess solar power can be stored for later use when demand is higher or when generation drops. This configuration is intended to support grid flexibility and stability.
Permitting and timeline
Enery secured network connection approval for the project in 2023. The company has positioned the development as a step toward combining utility-scale solar production with advanced storage solutions. Commercial operations are scheduled to start in the summer of 2027.
When completed, the site is expected to rank among the largest hybrid solar-plus-storage installations in Romania. It is also described as a major renewable energy hub in Southeastern Europe.
