The Croatian gas transmission network has achieved a notable milestone with the recent connection of the Zabok-Lučko pipeline to the existing international pipeline that links Rogatec and Zabok. This significant development occurred on March 4, marking the completion of a crucial phase in the construction of this new pipeline route.
Initiated in February of the previous year, the construction of the Zabok-Lučko pipeline spans 36 kilometers, predominantly laid underground. Above-ground installations are strategically placed at essential points, including block valve stations, pigging stations, and gas nodes. The pipeline’s trajectory largely follows the corridor of existing major transmission lines between Zabok and Zagreb, utilizing portions of the Zagreb west-east pipeline. This project is integral to Croatia’s ongoing efforts to bolster its gas infrastructure, supported by government financing through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The completion of construction and commencement of trial operations are anticipated by the end of May.
This segment of the pipeline is part of a broader infrastructure enhancement initiative associated with the expansion of the LNG terminal located on the island of Krk. The initiative encompasses several additional pipelines aimed at improving regional supply routes, including the operational Zlobin-Bosiljevo pipeline, alongside planned connections such as Bosiljevo-Sisak and Kozarac-Sisak.
Upon full development, the transmission capacity along the route from Zlobin through Bosiljevo, Sisak, and Kozarac towards Hungary could potentially reach 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas annually, contingent upon flow directions towards Slovenia. In its initial phase, the Zabok-Lučko pipeline is expected to facilitate transport volumes of around 1.5 billion cubic meters per year directed towards the Slovenian market.
