In 2024, Bulgaria’s electricity production has decreased by 6.75%, totaling 28.16 TWh from January 1 to September 29. Consumption also saw a decline of 1.27%, reaching 26.6 TWh, resulting in net exports of 1.56 TWh—52% lower than the same period in 2023.
Baseload power plants, including coal and nuclear, contributed 20.39 TWh, down 14.44% from last year. However, renewable energy sources (RES) made significant gains, with production in the transmission network rising by 37.59% to 2,618.5 GWh, and the distribution network seeing a 34.49% increase to 2,572.4 GWh.
