Bulgaria: KEVR approves 3.8% increase in wholesale natural gas price for March 2025

The Bulgarian Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (KEVR) has approved a 3.8% increase in the wholesale natural gas price for March 2025. The new price stands at approximately 44.8 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh), excluding VAT and excise duty. This follows a 3% increase approved for February.

The pricing structure reflects the full supply of Azerbaijani natural gas delivered via the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector (IGB) under a long-term agreement with Azerbaijan. KEVR noted that these deliveries account for 45.34% of Bulgaria’s gas consumption in March, playing a key role in maintaining competitive pricing.

In addition to Azerbaijani gas, Bulgargaz has secured two contracts for liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries through a competitive tender process, selecting suppliers based on the lowest offered delivery price and specified payment terms. Gas from the Chiren underground storage facility is also factored into the March pricing structure.

KEVR emphasized that the secured gas volumes will enable Bulgargaz to meet its supply commitments to end suppliers and heating companies, as well as fulfill contractual agreements with industrial clients under bilateral contracts.
