100 MW solar plant near Sokolac in Bosnia and Herzegovina set for August start

Permitting progress and August construction timeline

Construction of a planned 100 MW solar power plant near Sokolac is expected to begin in August, after earlier delays linked to permitting and administrative procedures. Local officials and the project developer cited the permitting process as the main factor behind the revised schedule. The municipality has now completed obligations within its competence, including signing a construction rights agreement. Remaining steps are focused on approvals and permits at the entity level, which are still pending.

Project developer, investment estimate and preparation status

The project is being developed by EnerState, a company linked to Germany’s Profine Group. When first announced in 2024, the total investment was estimated at around €120 million. EnerState said the development is in its final preparation phase. A construction permit has already been issued, but additional documentation for several land parcels within the project area is still being completed.

Grid connection discussions and financing conditions

EnerState reported that discussions with Elektroprijenos BiH regarding grid connection costs are progressing in line with expectations. On financing, preparations are ongoing and must be finalised before a contractor can be selected. The tender process for construction will begin only after the financing structure is closed. Groundworks are expected to start once both regulatory and financial conditions are fully met.

Location and technology considerations for the Glasinac plateau site

The solar plant will be located on the Glasinac plateau near Sokolac. The planned installed capacity is approximately 100 MW. Earlier project designs also considered tracking technology, which would allow solar panels to follow the sun throughout the day to improve generation efficiency.
