Montenegro’s renewable energy landscape is poised for significant growth as the Tupan solar power plant project near Nikšić has entered the crucial environmental approval phase. The Environmental Protection Agency has confirmed that the necessary environmental impact assessment documentation has been submitted, marking a key step toward the project’s realization.
The Tupan solar facility is designed with a capacity of 90 MW and will be situated near the village of Tupan. The project encompasses an area exceeding 1.56 million square meters, with plans to install more than 129,000 photovoltaic modules. The layout allocates over half of the designated space for solar panels, while the remainder will be utilized for access roads, infrastructure, and buffer zones to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
S2P Tupan, a newly established local company focused on engineering services and technical consulting, is spearheading the development of this solar initiative. Ownership is shared between a private investor holding a majority stake and a Swiss energy firm, both contributing to the financial backing of this ambitious renewable energy investment.
Upon receiving approval, the Tupan solar power plant is expected to significantly enhance Montenegro’s renewable electricity generation capacity. This development not only aligns with national energy transition goals but also positions Nikšić as a pivotal player in advancing sustainable energy solutions within the region.
