A EUR 78 million financing package will back the first 70 MW phase of the Strazhitsa wind farm near Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. The support is described as a return of large-scale wind investment to Bulgaria after years of limited activity.
Postbank is providing long-term financing for the project near Balchik. The total investment is estimated at approximately EUR 100 million. Developer Tessa Green Energy has secured the EUR 78 million from the bank for development.
Financing milestone for Bulgarian utility-scale wind
Postbank said Strazhitsa is the first Bulgarian wind project of comparable scale to secure financing since 2012. The bank linked the transaction to renewed interest in utility-scale wind as Bulgaria seeks to diversify its renewable generation portfolio.
The wind farm will be delivered in multiple phases, with the initial stage comprising 11 Vestas EnVentus V162-6.4 MW turbines. This configuration results in an installed capacity of 70 MW. Commercial operations are expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Role in Tessa Green Energy’s broader renewables plans
Tessa Green Energy intends Strazhitsa to function as a base for a broader renewable energy portfolio rather than a standalone investment. The developer plans to use the project as an initial step toward further wind development in the region.
The project is positioned amid changes in Bulgaria’s renewable market, where solar capacity has expanded rapidly in recent years. New wind development has faced permitting, grid and financing challenges. Postbank said the transaction shows how renewable energy investments can combine economic development with environmental benefits while supporting Bulgaria’s clean electricity generation goals and national and European Union energy objectives.
If delivered as planned, Strazhitsa is expected to indicate that Bulgaria’s wind market is entering a new investment cycle supported by bankable projects and long-term financing for large-scale capacity development.
