Solar photovoltaic changes week ending September 21
Across Europe’s major electricity markets, solar photovoltaic generation rose during the week of September 21 compared with the previous week. Germany saw the largest increase, with output up by 18%. France followed with a 5.9% gain and Italy recorded a 3.9% rise. Spain posted a smaller increase of 0.9%.
The four markets reversed declines that had been recorded over the previous two weeks. Portugal was the exception, with solar generation falling by 4.9%. This marked a second consecutive weekly decline for Portugal’s solar output.
Forecasts for solar generation week starting September 28
For the week of September 28, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects solar generation to increase in Italy. In contrast, output is forecast to decline in Germany and Spain. The outlooks indicate continued differences in solar production across Europe as seasonal conditions change.
Wind generation shifts during the fourth week of September
Wind generation moved in the opposite direction during the fourth week of September, falling in most major European electricity markets versus the previous week. Portugal recorded the steepest drop at 54%, followed by Germany with a 36% decline. Wind output fell by 30% in France and 27% in Spain.
AleaSoft reports that all four markets reversed the increases seen during the previous week. Italy was the main exception, with wind generation rising by 68% after declining during the prior week.
Wind forecasts for the week of September 28
For the week of September 28, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects further increases in wind generation in France, Portugal, and Spain. At the same time, wind output is expected to decline in Germany and Italy.
AleaSoft also said that weather conditions and seasonal patterns are expected to remain key drivers for renewable generation and electricity market dynamics in the coming weeks.
