Serbia’s renewable energy sector is progressing from auction awards and investment announcements into active construction. The commissioning of SANY Renewable Energy’s 168 MW Alibunar A and B wind farms in South Banat marks a shift toward operating assets. The project is presented as evidence of Serbia’s renewable auction framework translating into large-scale generation.
Alibunar wind project scale, investment and output
The Alibunar development is estimated to require around €240 million. It will use 40 wind turbines with an expected annual generation of approximately 480 GWh. Market-premium support has been secured for 70% of the installed capacity, according to the project information.
The revenue structure combines premium-backed income with exposure to market prices. This mix is described as relevant to Serbia’s efforts to attract investment while aligning with competitive electricity markets. The project’s operating profile is therefore tied to both supported volumes and market-linked performance.
Chinese partners involved in engineering, procurement and construction
The Alibunar project also reflects the role of Chinese companies in Serbia’s renewable infrastructure. SANY Renewable Energy is involved as an investor and as a wind turbine manufacturer for the scheme. PowerChina Chengdu Engineering is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work.
The partnership combines equipment manufacturing, construction delivery and financial backing within the broader China–Serbia economic cooperation framework. This arrangement links supply-chain roles with project execution under the EPC scope. The project structure therefore spans turbine provision through construction activities.
Construction delivery and operational monitoring requirements
After the construction phase begins, Alibunar is expected to be evaluated against international financing and operational standards. Stakeholders plan to monitor grid integration as part of commissioning readiness. Performance tracking will also include SCADA system behavior and commissioning quality.
Monitoring will extend to turbine availability and curtailment risks during operations. Long-term operation and maintenance requirements are also highlighted as key factors for ongoing performance. The project is positioned as a reference point for subsequent wind developments in Serbia’s renewable sector modernization efforts.
