Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedović announced that Serbia will receive approximately one million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan during the upcoming winter season, bolstering the country’s energy security.
Djedovic and her Azerbaijani counterpart Parviz Shahbazov signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering cooperation in green energy. Additionally, two gas supply agreements were established between Srbijagas and Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR).
Last year, agreements were made in Baku to ensure Serbia receives up to 400 million cubic meters of gas annually from Azerbaijan until 2026, with potential increases to one billion cubic meters thereafter. The newly signed agreements guarantee an additional supply of one million cubic meters per day from Azerbaijan between November 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.
The MoU on green energy paves the way for collaboration in the energy transition process, covering joint investments in green technologies, carbon capture and storage, e-mobility, and energy storage, among other areas.
A key topic discussed was the Green Energy Corridor, which aims to connect Azerbaijan with Central and Eastern Europe. Serbia’s strategic geographical position positions it as a vital player in this project, particularly as the country plans to strengthen its transmission network interconnections with Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria. The completion of the Trans-Balkan Corridor will further enhance Serbia’s transmission capacities toward Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and indirectly to Italy.
