In February 2026, the Serbian energy exchange, SEEPEX, recorded a total of 414,520.1 MWh traded on its day-ahead market. This figure represents a 2.4% increase from January 2026, averaging 14,804.3 MWh/day. However, this volume is 12.4% lower compared to the same month in the previous year, indicating a mixed performance in trading activity.
The market dynamics were characterized by a significant drop in pricing. The average daily base price for electricity on the day-ahead market fell to 68.61 euros/MWh, marking a substantial 41.9% decrease from January 2026. Similarly, the average euro-peak price decreased by 45.7%, settling at 74.05 euros/MWh. These price reductions reflect broader trends in supply and demand within the regional energy landscape.
SEEPEX, which commenced operations on 17 February 2016, has been pivotal in fostering a competitive and transparent electricity market in Serbia and southeastern Europe. Initially starting with a traded volume of just 1,925 MWh, the exchange has evolved significantly over the years. Its ownership structure includes the Serbian electricity transmission system operator (EMS) and the European Power Exchange (EPEX SPOT), both of which are committed to enhancing trading volumes and operational efficiency in the region.
The introduction of an intraday market in July 2023 further underscores SEEPEX’s role in adapting to changing market conditions and improving liquidity. As Serbia continues to navigate its energy transition and integrate more renewable sources, the performance metrics from February 2026 will be critical for stakeholders assessing market stability and pricing strategies moving forward.
