Hemofarm Expands Renewable Energy Initiatives with New Solar Power Plant in Vršac

In a significant advancement for Serbia’s renewable energy sector, Hemofarm, a prominent pharmaceutical manufacturer and part of Germany’s Stada Group, has inaugurated a rooftop solar power plant at its facility in Vršac. This initiative represents a substantial investment of 3 million euros and is one of the largest industrial solar projects undertaken in the country to date.

The newly operational solar installation boasts an installed capacity of 4 MW, utilizing approximately 21,000 square meters of roof space. The system comprises around 8,000 photovoltaic modules, which are expected to produce nearly 5 million kWh of clean electricity annually. This output will contribute to a reduction in the facility’s dependence on grid-supplied power by about 12% over the year.

Seasonal performance metrics indicate that during peak summer demand periods, when electricity consumption typically rises, the solar array could satisfy up to half of the factory’s total energy needs. Additionally, this project is anticipated to mitigate carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 3,000 to 3,500 tons each year, aligning with broader environmental sustainability goals.

Management at Hemofarm has identified this solar initiative as a key element of their long-term sustainability strategy. By enhancing their renewable energy share, the company aims to reduce its environmental footprint while bolstering supply security and operational resilience. This strategic move is essential for maintaining competitiveness and ensuring stable growth moving forward.

The project was executed under a full turnkey arrangement, which not only included the installation of solar panels but also involved reinforcing the building’s roof structure to accommodate the new system. Furthermore, a sophisticated digital monitoring platform has been implemented to track performance in real time, thus optimizing efficiency and ensuring reliable operations across the facility.
