The Serbian power exchange SEEPEX reported its strongest monthly performance to date in May 2026. Total electricity traded on the day-ahead market reached 566,303.8 MWh. The figure was up 17% versus April and 12.5% higher year-on-year. The exchange said the result marked an all-time monthly record.
Average daily volumes in May were 18,267.9 MWh. Trading activity continued throughout the month, according to the exchange figures. The day-ahead market also showed changes in pricing levels during the same period. The average base price stood at €96.63/MWh, increasing by 5.6% compared with April.
Day-ahead and intraday pricing developments
Alongside the base price increase, the average euro-peak price moved lower in May. It declined by 3% to reach €65.6/MWh. On the intraday market, a total of 4,969.2 MWh was traded during May. The average intraday price was €41.539/MWh.
The intraday segment was introduced in July 2023. SEEPEX described it as an additional layer of flexibility for market participants. Trading volumes on this segment continued to develop during May 2026.
SEEPEX launch and ownership structure
SEEPEX began operations on 17 February 2016. At launch, the exchange recorded an initial traded volume of 1,925 MWh. Since then, it has expanded significantly, based on the figures provided.
The exchange is jointly owned by EMS, identified as the Serbian Electricity Transmission System Operator, and EPEX SPOT. SEEPEX said its role is to support a transparent and competitive electricity market in Serbia. It also positions the platform for integration across the wider Southeast European region.
