Rompetrol Rafinare is expanding storage capacity at its Petromidia refinery as part of a broader programme aimed at improving the flexibility and reliability of crude oil and fuel logistics. The works are linked to ongoing modernisation of the company’s Romanian refining assets.
Navodari refinery tank modernisation
At the Navodari refinery, five tanks are being modernised or have recently returned to service. The update forms part of the wider storage and logistics programme described for Rompetrol’s refining operations.
Petromidia and Vega storage upgrades since 2007
Since 2007, the company has rehabilitated or upgraded more than 60 storage tanks across the Petromidia and Vega refineries. This includes expansions already completed for specific tanks used in product and component handling.
Diesel distillates tank expansion
A tank used for distillates in diesel production has been expanded from 5,000 to 6,000 cubic metres. The change increases capacity within the diesel production logistics chain at the refinery site.
Planned 2026 capacity increases and crude oil refurbishment
Additional works scheduled during 2026 include increasing a gasoline tank from 5,000 to 6,000 cubic metres. The programme also calls for expanding two tanks used for diesel and other refinery components from 10,000 to 12,000 cubic metres each.
The investment programme further includes refurbishment of a 57,000-cubic-metre crude oil tank. The stated objective is to increase operational flexibility while strengthening fuel and crude handling reliability and reducing logistics constraints as refining assets continue to be modernised.
