Romania’s solar landscape is poised for significant transformation as Waldevar Energy embarks on a major project to construct a 200 MW solar plant for Entek Elektrik, a subsidiary of Turkey’s Tupras. This initiative marks a pivotal development in Romania’s efforts to enhance its renewable energy capacity, particularly in the southern region, which is becoming increasingly recognized for its potential in sustainable energy generation.
Waldevar Energy will assume comprehensive EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) responsibilities for the project, which includes not only the construction of the facility but also operations and maintenance services for the initial two years of its commercial operation. This contract signifies Waldevar’s largest undertaking to date, showcasing its expanding role in the utility-scale solar market.
The solar plant will be strategically located in Niculesti, an area that is part of Romania’s burgeoning renewable energy corridor. The completion of this facility is expected to bolster Entek Elektrik’s commitment to diversifying its energy portfolio with low- and zero-carbon solutions, aligning with broader regional goals for sustainability and reduced carbon emissions.
With this new project, Waldevar Energy continues to build on a robust pipeline that now encompasses nearly 2.5 GW of contracted projects across Romania and other European markets. This growth trajectory highlights the company’s rapid ascent within the utility-scale solar sector, reflecting increasing demand for renewable energy infrastructure in Southeast Europe.
Additionally, this agreement follows Waldevar’s recent engagement with Doral Group Renewable Energy Resources to provide EPC services for smaller solar initiatives totaling 14 MW in Romania’s Braila and Calarasi counties. Such developments underscore the momentum building within Romania’s renewable energy sector as it seeks to meet both domestic energy needs and international climate commitments.
As these projects unfold, they will have significant implications for energy policy and market dynamics in Romania and beyond, reinforcing the importance of strategic investments in renewable infrastructure amidst a global shift towards cleaner energy sources.
