ICGB, the operator of the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), has released the gas supply volumes for January 2025, as well as data since the start of commercial operations. According to the company, the allocated quantity for firm forward flow from Greece to Bulgaria in January was 675,286,656 kWh. Since the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the ICGB, the total volume has reached 32,204,001,893 kWh.

For commercial reverse flow from Bulgaria to Greece, the allocated quantity in January was 20,348,491 kWh, bringing the total volume since the COD to 1,786,514,787 kWh.

The Greece-Bulgaria interconnector, which connects Bulgaria to the Southern Gas Corridor, is a key component of the Vertical Gas Corridor. This pipeline plays a crucial role in enhancing regional energy connectivity and security by providing access to natural gas from new, diversified sources. Operating at a capacity of 3 bcm/y, the pipeline has the potential to expand its technical capacity to 5 bcm/y. Currently, the interconnector meets approximately 70 percent of Bulgaria’s internal natural gas consumption and serves as a reliable route for supplying gas to key markets such as Moldova and Ukraine.
