Plans for the Banat 2 Wind Power Project in Serbia Advance Following Environmental Approval

The Banat 2 wind power project, situated in the municipality of Alibunar, has made significant progress as provincial authorities have approved its environmental impact assessment. This approval is a critical step in advancing the project, which is being developed by Vetroelektrana Banat 2.

Once completed, the wind farm will feature up to 25 turbines, each with a maximum output capacity of 8 MW. This configuration could yield a total installed capacity of approximately 140 MW, contributing substantially to Serbia’s renewable energy landscape.

The project encompasses not only the turbines but also essential supporting infrastructure, including turbine foundations, access roads, internal cable networks, and permanent service platforms for maintenance operations. According to project specifications, turbine towers are projected to reach heights of around 165 meters, with the total height—including rotor—extending to approximately 250 meters. The rotor blades themselves may measure up to 85 meters in length.

To enhance efficiency, the turbines will be outfitted with automatic systems designed to adjust according to wind direction, alongside converters that optimize electricity production. The generated electricity will be transmitted via a transformer station rated at 35/400 kV, designated as Banat 2.

This development aligns with Serbia’s broader strategy to increase its renewable energy capacity and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The successful implementation of such projects is crucial for meeting both national and European Union energy targets, particularly in light of ongoing commitments to sustainability and carbon reduction.
