In January 2026, North Macedonia’s day-ahead electricity exchange experienced a significant surge in trading activity, with a total of 153,028.7 MWh of electricity traded. This figure represents a 17.6% increase from 130,168 MWh recorded in January 2025, highlighting the growing engagement in the electricity market. Moreover, the trading volume for this month showed a remarkable 29.6% rise compared to December 2025.
The latest data from the electricity market operator MEMO indicates that the average market-clearing price for January 2026 was set at 122.55 euros/MWh, which marks an increase of 4.8% over the previous month. The daily average trading volume during this period was approximately 4,936.4 MWh, while the highest price reached an impressive 137.8 euros/MWh.
This upward trend in trading volume and prices underscores the evolving dynamics of North Macedonia’s electricity market, which has been operational since its establishment in May 2023. The growth reflects not only increased market participation but also potential shifts in supply-demand balances and pricing mechanisms within the regional energy landscape.
