NIS Group Reports Significant Profit Increase Amid Regulatory Challenges

In the first quarter of 2026, the NIS Group faced considerable operational hurdles due to stringent licensing restrictions imposed by the US Department of the Treasury. These limitations have notably affected the company’s financial and operational metrics, particularly in oil refining and petroleum product sales, which saw a decline compared to the same period last year. The environment remains challenging, with tightened operational conditions impacting overall performance.

Despite these adversities, NIS Group reported an EBITDA of approximately 94 million euros for Q1 2026. The net profit surged to around 24 million euros, reflecting an impressive 87% increase year-on-year. This growth was primarily attributed to favorable conditions such as lower oil inventory costs and rising global oil prices, with the average Brent crude price recorded at 80.6 dollars per barrel—approximately 7% higher than in Q1 2025. These factors indicate supportive but volatile market dynamics that continue to shape the energy sector.

During the January to March timeframe, NIS Group allocated about 54 million euros towards investments, predominantly in oil and gas exploration and production initiatives. The company generated an operating cash flow of around 143 million euros while fulfilling accrued taxes and public obligations totaling approximately 376 million euros. This underscores the firm’s ongoing financial commitments alongside investment activity, essential for sustaining operations in a fluctuating market.

Production figures for the quarter revealed that total oil and gas output reached 280.3 thousand tons, while refining activities accounted for 642.8 thousand tons of crude oil and semi-finished products. Additionally, petroleum product sales amounted to 592.2 thousand tons, and electricity generation stood at 40.5 GWh. These numbers reflect steady operational output despite constraints, showcasing the company’s resilience in maintaining production levels under pressure.

Looking ahead, NIS Group has expressed its commitment to ensuring a stable market supply while upholding financial discipline and employee stability throughout the remainder of the year. This approach signals a cautious yet resilient operational strategy in a complex environment, as the company navigates ongoing regulatory challenges and market fluctuations.
