In April 2026, the Serbian electricity market experienced a notable increase in trading activity, with the SEEPEX day-ahead market recording a total of 484,034.6 MWh traded. This figure represents a 5.7% rise from the previous month, averaging 16,134.5 MWh per day. However, this monthly growth contrasts with a 3.2% decline compared to April 2025, highlighting mixed year-on-year market dynamics.
The average base price for electricity on the day-ahead market was reported at 91.51 euros/MWh, which is a decrease of 3.3% from March. Notably, the euro-peak price saw a more significant drop of 18.8%, settling at 67.64 euros/MWh. This decline suggests weaker peak demand pricing pressures across the market, reflecting broader trends in supply and demand.
Established on February 17, 2016, SEEPEX has evolved significantly since its inception when it recorded an initial trading volume of just 1,925 MWh. The exchange is co-owned by the Serbian electricity transmission system operator EMS and EPEX SPOT, aiming to foster a transparent and competitive electricity market within Serbia and the Southeast European region.
The introduction of an intraday market in July 2023 has further bolstered trading flexibility and liquidity on the platform. Over the years, SEEPEX has been instrumental in promoting market integration and increasing electricity trading volumes across the region, positioning itself as a key player in the evolving energy landscape.
