A collaborative effort between wis.dom|bridge™ and Clarion Owners Engineer aims to bolster Serbian exporters’ readiness for the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). This initiative is particularly significant as it seeks to align Serbia’s industrial practices with the evolving carbon regulatory landscape of the EU, which is increasingly focused on sustainability and emissions reduction.
As members of the International Association for CBAM (IACBAM), both organizations are committed to facilitating knowledge exchange and aligning industry practices with EU regulations. The newly introduced “CBAM Knowledge Bridge” model will serve as a structured platform that translates complex EU regulatory requirements into actionable operational procedures for sectors vulnerable to CBAM, such as steel, cement, aluminium, fertilisers, and electricity.
With the EU advancing towards full financial implementation of CBAM, Serbian exporters are under mounting pressure to provide verified emissions data and establish compliance-ready production processes. The initiative will not only clarify regulatory interpretations but also offer practical tools for implementation. Wis.dom|bridge™ will spearhead the development of frameworks for CBAM interpretation and exporter guidance, while Clarion Owners Engineer will focus on engineering-based emissions quantification and system structuring.
Participants in this initiative will benefit from a range of resources designed to facilitate compliance. These include structured CBAM reporting templates tailored to transitional and definitive phase requirements, methodologies for engineering-based emissions calculations integrated into production processes, and protocols for verification readiness that align with expectations from EU importers and third-party auditors. Additionally, compliance simulation exercises will help exporters navigate real-world CBAM declaration scenarios.
A key element of this program is the establishment of a Serbia-based knowledge hub that will function as a permanent platform for training and technical support. This hub is expected to deliver workshops, technical bootcamps, and sector-specific sessions aimed at industries most impacted by CBAM obligations.
The initiative also seeks to create a supportive ecosystem that extends beyond exporters. Local engineering firms entering the CBAM-related value chain, industrial operators transitioning to carbon-accounted production, and financial institutions assessing CBAM exposure within their portfolios are all expected to benefit from this comprehensive approach.
By embedding technical expertise and compliance capabilities within Serbia, the initiative aims to streamline access to verification and reporting resources for exporters. The first phase of the program is slated to begin in the latter half of 2026, initially involving pilot participants from key industrial sectors before expanding across Serbia’s export-oriented economy and potentially throughout the Western Balkans.
As the CBAM evolves from a mere reporting obligation into a significant financial mechanism, the ability of Serbian exporters to adapt effectively will be crucial in maintaining their competitiveness within the European market. The CBAM Knowledge Bridge is strategically positioned to facilitate this transition by linking regulatory requirements with practical solutions tailored for implementation.
