Montenegro is advancing its renewable energy initiatives with the proposed development of a 64.8 MW wind farm in the vicinity of Podgorica. This project, spearheaded by Qair Montenegro, a subsidiary of the French renewable energy group Qair International, reflects the country’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its energy capacity through sustainable sources.
The Government of Montenegro has recently approved the draft urban and technical conditions necessary for the wind farm, which will occupy approximately 51.6 hectares north of the capital. The project is designed to feature nine wind turbines, each boasting an installed capacity of 7.2 MW, contributing significantly to the national grid.
This initiative is part of Qair’s broader strategy to establish a diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects throughout Montenegro. The company has already made strides in solar energy, with its most notable project being the 50 MW Rudine solar power plant located near Nikšić. This facility, valued at around €40 million, received its environmental permit in early 2025 and has secured a grid connection agreement with the transmission system operator CGES. The commercial operation of Rudine is anticipated before the conclusion of 2028.
In addition to the Rudine project, Qair is preparing to launch two additional solar power plants in the Nikšić region, named Petrovići and Jabuka, each with a planned capacity of 60 MW. These developments underscore Qair’s proactive approach to renewable energy investment in Montenegro.
The establishment of the Momče wind farm signifies a pivotal moment in Montenegro’s transition towards a more diversified energy portfolio. As wind and solar projects continue to proliferate, they are poised to reshape the country’s electricity landscape, enhancing both energy security and sustainability.
