Transelectrica says the Mintia gas-fired power plant has completed a key step in its commissioning following successful checks of the electrical infrastructure linking the facility to Romania’s national transmission network. The latest milestone covers testing of the connection equipment required for integration into the grid.
400 kV energisation and transformer activation
The transmission system operator reported that the test programme included energizing the 400 kV grid connection for the plant’s first gas turbine unit. The works also involved activating power transformers used for both grid integration and supplying the plant’s auxiliary internal systems. The testing activities were completed on 15 June.
After the successful testing phase, engineers started additional technical inspections and operational verification procedures for the electrical equipment. These activities form part of the ongoing commissioning process and reliability validation. They are expected to continue over the coming weeks.
Grid connection works for the first 575 MW unit
The Mintia power plant is described as one of Romania’s largest new energy infrastructure investments, with an estimated development cost of approximately €1.4 billion. Earlier this year, Transelectrica accelerated grid connection works for the first 575 MW gas turbine unit.
This earlier acceleration enabled the project to advance into its latest phase of system testing and operational readiness, following progress on grid connection activities.
