Hungarian electricity exchange HUPX reported a 17.5% rise in its September day-ahead baseload price, while traded volumes fell versus August and stayed above year-earlier levels. The monthly pricing movement coincided with lower overall activity on the exchange.
Monthly baseload and peak-load averages
The monthly baseload average reached €178.73/MWh, compared with €152.17/MWh in August. The peak-load average increased by 17.2% to €144.31/MWh. A comparison of the two products showed a €34.42/MWh discount of peak-load to baseload electricity.
The gap between peak-load and baseload benchmarks reflects differences in when demand occurs within the month. A monthly baseload benchmark does not capture the price paid by a buyer whose demand is concentrated in particular hours. For generators, the same distinction can affect realised revenues when output is concentrated during lower-priced periods rather than matching the headline market average.
Day-ahead turnover and intraday continuous volumes
Day-ahead turnover totalled approximately 2.47 TWh, down from 2.92 TWh in August and compared with 2.21 TWh in September 2025. Intraday continuous trading reached 1.261 TWh, a month-on-month decline of 3.4%.
During September, HUPX recorded 132 registered day-ahead members and 130 intraday continuous members. The membership figures were reported alongside the volume changes across both trading segments.
Cost base into October after September price increase
The September increase raised the cost base entering October, according to HUPX market data referenced for subsequent trading days. By 9 October, the Hungarian day-ahead average had reached €269.43/MWh.
The reported level illustrated how quickly daily supply pressures can lift procurement costs above an already expensive monthly benchmark.
