In a significant move to enhance its renewable energy capabilities, Hidroelectrica, Romania’s leading producer of renewable electricity, has awarded a turnkey contract for the construction of the Tara Hategului solar power plant. This contract, valued at 4.9 million euros excluding VAT, was awarded following a competitive tender process that attracted four bids. The successful proposal came from a consortium comprising Electro-Alfa International and General ME.EL Electric, with Electro-Alfa taking the lead.
The new solar facility is designed to have an installed capacity of 8.9 MW, which is projected to produce around 11 GWh of electricity annually. This initiative is part of Hidroelectrica’s strategy to bolster its renewable energy output, reduce carbon emissions, and align with both Romania’s and the European Union’s energy transition objectives.
The turnkey contract stipulates that the contractor will oversee all phases of the project, including engineering design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and ongoing technical support throughout the warranty period. The overall timeline for this project is set at 12 months, with two months allocated for design and ten months for construction and commissioning.
Currently, Hidroelectrica operates over 6.3 GW of installed hydropower capacity, alongside the Crucea wind farm. The company plays a pivotal role in Romania’s renewable energy landscape and is instrumental in advancing regional decarbonization efforts across southeastern Europe.
