The Green Breeze Wind Farm in Galați County, Romania, has successfully commissioned its 220 kV transformer substation in Frumușița, marking a significant milestone in its development. This achievement allows the facility to connect to the national electricity transmission system, paving the way for its anticipated commercial operations.

Developed by the Swedish company OX2 for Nala Renewables—a joint venture supported by Trafigura and IFM Investors—the wind farm has an installed capacity of 99.2 MW and features 16 Vestas V162-6.2 MW turbines. This positions it among the notable new wind energy projects in the region, contributing to Romania’s renewable energy landscape.

With full commercial operation expected in the coming months, the wind farm is projected to generate around 312 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 51,000 households. The project is also estimated to reduce CO₂ emissions by about 150,000 tons per year, underscoring its importance in Romania’s energy transition efforts.

Construction of the wind farm commenced in late 2024 after Nala Renewables acquired it from OX2 earlier that year. Under this agreement, OX2 retained responsibility for construction and operational delivery while Nala Renewables maintained investment oversight. The deal includes a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with a multinational corporate offtaker, ensuring long-term revenue stability for the project.

Financing for the Green Breeze Wind Farm was secured through Erste Group and its Romanian subsidiary Banca Comercială Română, indicating a robust interest from financial institutions in utility-scale renewable energy assets within Central and Eastern Europe.

This project marks OX2’s first fully completed renewable energy initiative in Romania, where it is simultaneously working on a broader pipeline of projects totaling approximately 1,100 MW. This continued expansion reflects a growing commitment to enhancing wind capacity and advancing sustainable energy solutions in the country.
