Europe’s Solar and Wind Energy Markets Experience Fluctuations in April

In the early weeks of April, the performance of solar photovoltaic energy production across Europe exhibited notable variability. Compared to the last week of March, the first week of April saw a general trend of increased solar output, driven by longer daylight hours and improved solar irradiation. However, the growth was moderate overall, with average temperatures rising by approximately 2 °C. Specific market performances revealed a 13% increase in Portugal, while Germany and Spain recorded more modest gains of 2.7% and 1.9%, respectively. Conversely, France and Italy experienced declines of 14% and 5%, indicating a mixed landscape for solar energy production.

Looking ahead to the second week of April, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting suggest that Germany and Italy may witness significant boosts in photovoltaic production, following their relatively moderate outputs in the previous week. In contrast, the Iberian markets, which had high production levels earlier in the month, are anticipated to undergo downward adjustments.

On the wind energy front, all analyzed European markets reported declines during the first week of April when compared to the preceding week. Portugal faced one of the steepest reductions at 28%, followed by Italy’s decrease of 10%. Projections for the second week indicate that Italy and France may continue to see further declines in wind energy production. However, Portugal is expected to rebound significantly after its sharp drop in output.
