Enexus has signed an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) agreement with Compeador Construct, part of the Turkish-backed Astor RO Energy, for a solar power project in Alba Iulia, Romania. The development is described as a large-scale photovoltaic initiative with an installed capacity of approximately 75 MW. The scope covers engineering, procurement and construction activities for the facility.
220 kV transmission infrastructure included in the solar project
Alongside the photovoltaic plant, the project includes construction of a new 220 kV transformer substation. The substation will be equipped with two 80 MVA transformers. The stated purpose is to support efficient integration of the plant into Romania’s national transmission system while contributing to grid stability.
Construction is already underway in an initial phase. Work covers both solar generation infrastructure and high-voltage connection systems needed for grid integration. The development combines generation assets with transmission infrastructure from the outset.
Grid connection capabilities highlighted as renewables expand
Enexus said the project aligns with changes in renewable energy development that increasingly require integration with transmission networks. The company also pointed to advanced system-support capabilities as part of new installation requirements. It emphasized that substation engineering and grid connection expertise are becoming more important as renewable penetration rises and system flexibility becomes more important.
Astor RO Energy representatives, describing the company as the Romanian arm of Turkish group Astor Enerji, cited Romania as a strategic market for regional expansion plans. They said long-term sector growth will depend on development of robust energy infrastructure. Enexus executives also referenced growing attractiveness for cross-border energy investment, linking it to projects with strong grid integration and operational resilience.
