EPC agreement for Satu Mare 3 solar development

Romanian utility Electrica has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth around €27.9 million (excluding VAT) for the Satu Mare 3 solar power project. The agreement marks the project’s move into the construction phase following completion of planning and preparatory works. The contract is being executed through Electrica’s subsidiary New Trend Energy.

Scope includes substation and three-year O&M

The EPC contract covers construction of the solar plant and development of a 110 kV substation. It also includes operation and maintenance services for a period of three years after the facility becomes operational. The project is designed to progress from development into full construction execution once preparatory steps are completed.

Site location and capacity details

The solar power plant will be located near the village of Doba in Satu Mare County. The installed capacity of the facility is 62.5 MW. With the EPC contract signed, the project enters full construction execution after the planning and preparatory works conclude.

Financing via 2025 green bond proceeds

Electrica said the investment will be financed primarily through proceeds from its 2025 green bond issuance. The company’s statement links the funding approach to its use of capital markets to support renewable expansion. The financing plan is tied to the start of construction under the newly signed EPC agreement.

Link to Electrica generation expansion targets

The Satu Mare 3 project is part of Electrica’s broader plan to expand its generation portfolio within the renewable energy sector. Electrica has previously outlined an ambition to develop up to 1 GW of installed generation capacity by the end of the decade. Solar energy is expected to play a central role in that growth strategy.
