The recent success of DEPA Trade, a Greek gas company, in securing a cross-border gas supply agreement marks a significant development in the energy landscape of Southeast Europe. The company emerged as the winning bidder in an international tender organized by Bulgaria’s Bulgartransgaz, aimed at enhancing regional energy security and cooperation.
This procurement process, facilitated through the Balkan Gas Hub, focused on obtaining 500 GWh of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet Bulgaria’s transmission system requirements. The scheduled delivery of the selected LNG cargo is set for early August, with the arrival planned at the Alexandroupoli Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU).
Christos Basdekis, DEPA Trade’s Director of Trading, emphasized that this outcome reflects effective collaboration among regional stakeholders. He noted that such partnerships are crucial for ensuring a reliable gas supply across Southeast Europe, highlighting the growing interdependence among nations in the region.
DEPA Trade’s operations span multiple markets in Southeastern Europe, and this recent tender win underscores its commitment to reinforcing its role in the regional energy security framework. The company aims to pursue further cross-border initiatives that will contribute to a more integrated and resilient energy market in the future.
