Danish developer Eurowind Energy is advancing Romania’s renewable energy sector with the introduction of its inaugural hybrid wind-solar project, named Siminoc. This facility will feature a combined capacity of nearly 50 MW, with an equal distribution between wind turbines and solar panels, marking a significant step in the country’s energy diversification efforts.
Situated in Constanța County, the Siminoc project entails an investment of approximately €65 million. It is poised to leverage Romania’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) support mechanism, which aims to stabilize revenue once the installation begins electricity generation. The projected annual output is around 120 GWh, sufficient to power over 50,000 households, thereby contributing to local energy needs.
Currently, the project is in its early development phase, with permitting activities expected to extend into the first half of 2026. Construction is slated to commence in 2027, with full operational capability anticipated by 2028. Critical technical decisions regarding the selection of wind turbines, solar modules, and potential battery storage integration will be determined during the procurement phase.
Eurowind’s foray into this hybrid model aligns with its long-term strategy in Romania, where it has been active since 2011. The company operates four solar power plants within the country and aims to achieve a total installed capacity of 124 MW by the end of the second quarter of 2026.
The Siminoc plant is part of a larger pipeline comprising 7.5 GW of projects that Eurowind is pursuing in Romania. This initiative underscores a transition towards more integrated renewable solutions and reflects the company’s expanding footprint in southeastern Europe’s energy landscape.
