In December 2025, the Croatian energy exchange (CROPEX) recorded a total electricity trading volume of 1,087,877 MWh, marking an 8% decline compared to October. This volume included 880,731.5 MWh traded on the day-ahead market and 207,145.5 MWh on the intraday market. Year-over-year, the trading volume showed a modest increase of 3.2% compared to December 2024.

The average daily base price on the day-ahead market for December was reported at €113.1/MWh, reflecting a decrease of 4.4% from November. The average euro-peak price also fell to €125.37/MWh, down by 6% from the previous month. In the intraday market, the average price stood at €112.9/MWh, which represents a decrease of 5.2% compared to November. The average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market was recorded at 28,410.7 MWh.

CROPEX has been operational since its launch on 11 March 2016, established in collaboration with Nord Pool, a prominent European electricity exchange. It is co-owned by the Croatian electricity transmission system operator (HOPS) and the Croatian electricity market operator (HROTE). The intraday market commenced operations in April 2017, enhancing trading flexibility for market participants. A significant milestone occurred on 19 June 2018, when CROPEX’s day-ahead market was successfully coupled with the MRC markets through the Croatian–Slovenian border, facilitated by joint efforts from Croatian and Slovenian transmission system operators and power exchanges.

The fluctuations in trading volumes and prices indicate ongoing adjustments within Croatia’s electricity market landscape. The decrease in trading volumes from October to December may reflect seasonal demand variations or shifts in supply dynamics, while year-over-year growth suggests underlying resilience in market activity. As CROPEX continues to evolve, stakeholders will need to monitor these trends closely to inform their operational strategies and investment decisions.
