Bulgaria’s renewable energy landscape is experiencing a significant shift as the wind energy sector gains traction following a period of stagnation. The recent agreement between Vestas Wind Systems and Tessa Green Energy marks a pivotal moment, with Vestas set to supply equipment for a 70 MW wind project. This development signals a renewed interest in investment within Bulgaria’s wind industry, which has faced challenges over the past years.
The project will feature 11 EnVentus V162-6.4 MW turbines, slated for installation at the Strazhitsa wind farm. Industry analysts view this initiative as crucial for re-establishing large-scale wind development in Bulgaria, an area that has seen limited activity recently. The Strazhitsa project is anticipated to become the first major wind installation in the country in over a decade, highlighting its importance to the sector’s future.
Construction preparations are already underway, with local company DMT Prime involved in the development process. This collaboration underscores the growing momentum within Bulgaria’s renewable energy market and reflects a broader trend of increasing local participation in such projects.
The agreement between Vestas and Tessa Green Energy also encompasses a long-term service contract, which will provide ongoing maintenance and operational support for the turbines. Deliveries of the turbines are expected to commence in early 2027, with commissioning targeted for mid-2027. This timeline indicates a structured approach to project execution, aimed at ensuring operational efficiency from the outset.
Officials from both companies have highlighted the strategic significance of this deal. For Vestas, it represents a return to active project engagement in Bulgaria, where the company has been operational since 2007 and has contributed over 360 MW of installed capacity. For Tessa Green Energy, this partnership lays a robust foundation for regional expansion and enhances its competitive position within the renewable energy market.
