DRI has refinanced a €50.6 million senior construction bridge facility tied to its 60-MW Ruginoasa wind farm in northeastern Romania. The refinancing supports the project after the construction phase. Ruginoasa is described as the first new wind farm completed in Romania in more than a decade.

The transaction was provided by Austrian lender Kommunalkredit. The refinancing was made to Moldova Eolian, the project company behind the facility. The asset is located in Iasi county.

Ruginoasa and DRI’s operating renewable portfolio

Ruginoasa is one of four renewable assets operated by DRI in Romania. In addition to the wind project, DRI’s portfolio includes three solar plants. The refinancing is intended to strengthen the wind farm’s long-term capital structure after construction.

The deal also gives DRI additional flexibility to pursue new projects. DRI operates as the renewable energy arm of Ukrainian energy group DTEK. The developer is expanding across Romania, Italy, Poland and Croatia.

Expansion strategy and regional investment focus

DRI’s expansion approach includes greenfield development, partnerships with local companies, and acquisitions of operating assets. Romania has become a central market for the developer as investment in wind, solar and storage accelerates. For lenders, the refinancing is presented as a sign of renewed appetite for operational Romanian wind assets after limited new construction.
