In response to rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, Bulgarian authorities have intensified their monitoring of the domestic fuel market. The government has assured that current fuel reserves are adequate, while implementing new measures to track price movements closely. These actions aim to prepare for potential policy adjustments should market conditions worsen.
The Bulgarian Customs Agency has initiated a program for daily monitoring of petroleum product prices nationwide. This initiative is designed to identify any abnormal price fluctuations during this period of geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East. Data collected will be analyzed and shared with relevant institutions to enhance market supervision and facilitate the rapid identification of irregularities.
<pSimultaneously, a special interministerial task force has been established by the caretaker government to monitor developments within the fuel sector. This group comprises representatives from various government agencies and is tasked with evaluating risks related to fuel supply stability, price volatility, and economic impacts. Its primary function is to coordinate responses across institutions and recommend measures if market pressures escalate.
Bulgian officials have made efforts to reassure the public regarding the availability of fuel supplies. Assen Assenov, head of the State Agency for State Reserves and Wartime Stocks, confirmed that Bulgaria maintains adequate fuel inventories, ensuring stability in the domestic market despite external uncertainties.
Additionally, Rumen Spetsov, director of the National Revenue Agency, stated that Bulgaria has sufficient fuel to meet demand until the end of March, even in the event of disruptions in shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that existing reserves, combined with ongoing deliveries, would provide the government ample time to implement contingency measures or secure alternative supply routes if necessary.
The proactive steps taken by Bulgarian authorities come as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to raise alarms about the reliability of crucial global energy transport routes. The government has committed to maintaining vigilant monitoring and institutional coordination to ensure domestic fuel supplies remain stable and protect the market from sudden shocks.
