The Albanian electricity exchange, ALPEX, has announced a substantial increase in its day-ahead market trading volume, reaching a total of 197.44 GWh in February 2026. This figure marks a 5.6% rise from January 2026 and an impressive 138.6% increase compared to the same month last year, reflecting a robust expansion in trading activities within the exchange.
Breaking down the traded volume, the Kosovo bidding zone accounted for 123.6 GWh, while the Albania bidding zone recorded 126.7 GWh. The average market clearing prices were reported at 58.87 euros/MWh for Albania and 61.17 euros/MWh for Kosovo, with the overall average price on ALPEX reaching 60.02 euros/MWh during February.
Despite the increase in trading volumes, the total value of transactions for the month was approximately 23.1 million euros, which indicates a decrease of 13.5% compared to February of the previous year. This discrepancy highlights the complex dynamics of market pricing and trading activity amidst fluctuating demand and supply conditions.
ALPEX was established in October 2020 through a collaboration between the Albanian electricity transmission system operator OST and its Kosovo counterpart KOSTT. Since its inception, ALPEX has facilitated increased market participation, currently boasting 36 members across both Albania and Kosovo bidding zones. The exchange’s first auction for the Albanian market took place in April 2023, marking a significant milestone in regional electricity trading.
