Electricity production in March 2026 increased by 6.3% versus February, reaching 3,724 GWh, according to data released by the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute. Electricity consumption fell by 5.5% on a monthly basis to 3,277 GWh.
Electricity and natural gas trends
Natural gas consumption rose slightly by 0.6% compared with the previous month to 313 million cubic meters. Domestic natural gas production was unchanged at 1 million cubic meters.
Year-on-year figures showed stronger movement across the energy sector. Electricity production was up 7.3% compared with March 2025, while electricity consumption increased by 11.3%. Natural gas consumption climbed by 19.9% year-on-year.
Petroleum products: petrol, diesel and LPG
The petroleum sector recorded increases in both production and consumption for petrol and diesel. Unleaded petrol production rose by 14.8% to 132,000 tons, while unleaded petrol consumption increased by 27% to 47,000 tons.
Diesel production increased by 4.3% to 240,000 tons, and diesel consumption rose by 31.7% to 241,000 tons. In the liquefied petroleum gas segment, production grew by 75% to 7,000 tons, while consumption decreased by 2.9% to 33,000 tons.
Solid fuels decline in March 2026 data
The solid fuels sector showed a decline in both production and consumption. Solid fuel production fell by 28.3% year-on-year to 959 thousand tons, while solid fuel consumption decreased by 26.1% to 1,024 thousand tons.
