Electricity generation in Bulgaria increased in April 2026, climbing by 1% month-on-month to 3,761 GWh, according to the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute. Over the same period, electricity use fell by 15.6%, reaching 2,776 GWh.
Compared with April 2025, electricity output was up 14%. Electricity consumption increased by 3.1% on an annual basis.
Natural gas consumption and production trends
In the gas sector, natural gas consumption decreased by 21.1% month-on-month to 247 million cubic meters. Gas production remained unchanged at 1 million cubic meters.
On a year-on-year basis, natural gas consumption was still higher by 12.8% compared with April 2025. Production at 1 million cubic meters was reported as unchanged.
Oil products: petrol, diesel and LPG movements
In oil products, unleaded petrol production declined by 3% to 128,000 tons, while petrol consumption rose by 14.9% to 54,000 tons. Diesel production increased by 2.5% to 246,000 tons, but diesel consumption fell by 30.7% to 167,000 tons.
LPG consumption dropped by 15.2% to 28,000 tons. LPG production remained stable at 7,000 tons.
Solid fuels decline in April 2026
The solid fuels segment recorded declines across both measures. Production fell by 34.9% to 624,000 tons, while consumption decreased by 33.4% to 682,000 tons.
