Gross electricity generation in Bosnia and Herzegovina reached 1,065 GWh in June, up from 1,000 GWh in June 2025. Thermal plants accounted for 60.2% of gross output, while hydropower contributed 29.7%. Wind and solar together provided 10.1% of generation.
Hydropower performance improved on a net basis, with net hydropower production rising 20.3% year on year to 302 GWh. Thermal generation from power stations totalled 574 GWh, increasing by 0.9%. Combined wind and solar output reached 108 GWh, up 6.9%.
Imports and exports shift as generation mix strengthens
The higher overall generation reduced the country’s reliance on imported electricity and supported higher exports. Electricity imports fell by 7.2% to 348 GWh, compared with 375 GWh a year earlier. Exports increased in the opposite direction, rising by 13.9% to 598 GWh.
The export figure of 598 GWh compares with 525 GWh recorded in June 2025. The June pattern reflects changes in the balance between domestic production and cross-border flows into surrounding SEE markets.
Coal and gas inputs decline while power output rises
The improvement in electricity output occurred alongside weaker domestic mining volumes. Lignite production decreased by 8.2% to 360,000 tonnes, while brown-coal output fell by 11.2% to 450,000 tonnes. Natural gas imports also declined during the month.
Total gas imports reached 5.86mn cu m, around 33% lower than the 8.74mn cu m imported in the corresponding month last year . The June figures point to stronger hydropower availability supporting the electricity balance despite lower coal production .
