Bosnia and Herzegovina’s 315-MW Visegrad hydropower plant produced 33.35 GWh in August, according to operator Hidroelektrane na Drini. The August figure was 10.2% higher than July output. It also exceeded production in the same month last year by more than one-third.
In July, the plant generated 30.27 GWh, while August 2025 output was 24.79 GWh. Through the first eight months of 2026, Visegrad produced 691.13 GWh. That total left it within 90.7 GWh of its full-year production in 2025.
Annual generation and plant capacity details
Visegrad generated 781.8 GWh in 2025, up from 733 GWh in 2024. Despite the increase, annual output remained well below the plant’s long-term average of about 1,010 GWh. The facility was commissioned in 1989.
The hydropower station operates three units of 105 MW each. Its record annual production reached 1,283.05 GWh in 2010.
Regional river conditions and grid support for ERS
The rise in August generation provides some support to the power balance of Bosnian Serb utility ERS. However, low river levels elsewhere in the Danube basin continue to affect hydropower availability across the region.
The operator’s figures show that output changes at Visegrad are occurring alongside broader hydrological constraints in the Danube system. Continued exposure to dry weather remains a factor for regional generation levels.
