The Višegrad hydropower plant, operated by the subsidiary of the power utility ERS, “Hidroelektrane na Drini,” has reported a notable decrease in electricity generation for March 2026. The facility produced 94.72 GWh, which is a 34.2% drop from February’s output of 143.98 GWh. This decline is also evident when compared to March 2025, during which the plant generated 120.21 GWh.

In the broader context, HPP Višegrad achieved a total generation of 781.8 GWh in 2025, reflecting a slight increase from 733 GWh in 2024. Since the start of 2026, cumulative output has reached 400.4 GWh. These figures underscore the impact of seasonal variations on hydrological conditions affecting power generation.

Commissioned in 1989, HPP Višegrad boasts an installed capacity of 315 MW (3 × 105 MW units) and typically averages around 1,010 GWh annually. The plant’s peak performance occurred in 2010, when it recorded an impressive output of 1,283.05 GWh, marking its highest annual production to date.

The recent output figures highlight ongoing challenges faced by hydropower facilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina as they navigate seasonal fluctuations. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for stakeholders in the energy sector, particularly as they consider future operational strategies and potential modernization projects aimed at enhancing efficiency and resilience against such variability.
