The Government of Serbia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Energy International Group (CEIG) to enhance strategic cooperation in the energy sector. Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedovic, emphasized that this partnership aims to expand energy storage capacities through innovative technologies.

Djedovic highlighted Serbia’s commitment to sourcing nearly half of its energy from renewable energy sources (RES) by 2030, making effective energy storage crucial for achieving this goal. She noted that Chinese companies have developed advanced methodologies and technologies in compressed air energy storage, already implemented in facilities in Great Britain.

This collaboration represents a significant foreign investment opportunity, with state-owned power utility EPS set to directly benefit from these advancements. The introduction of this technology in Serbia could play a pivotal role in enhancing the country’s energy infrastructure.
