The renewable energy sector in Romania is experiencing significant advancements with the recent launch of the Pecineaga wind farm, developed by Eurowind Energy. This project is pivotal in enhancing the country’s capacity for cleaner electricity generation, aligning with Romania’s broader energy transition goals.
Situated in Constanța County, the Pecineaga wind farm boasts an installed capacity of 48 MW, representing an investment of approximately €90 million. The facility features eight Siemens Gamesa SG 6.6-170 turbines, each equipped with 135-meter towers and 85-meter blades, culminating in a total height of around 220 meters. This deployment incorporates some of the most sophisticated wind technology currently operational in Romania.
Adrian Dobre, Country Manager for Romania at Eurowind Energy, emphasized that this project solidifies the company’s strategic foothold within one of its key European markets. Romania stands as one of four priority countries for Eurowind, alongside Poland, Germany, and Denmark. With the addition of the Pecineaga facility, Eurowind’s total operational capacity in Romania has now reached 124 MW. Furthermore, the company is advancing energy storage projects that will contribute an additional 120 MWh to its portfolio.
Anticipated to generate around 176,000 MWh of electricity annually, the Pecineaga wind farm is expected to provide power for approximately 48,000 households. This increase in renewable energy production is crucial for enhancing the sustainability of Romania’s electricity mix and overall energy system.
Since entering the Romanian market in 2011, Eurowind Energy has been actively expanding its operations. The company currently has a development pipeline estimated at 7.5 GW across various projects involving wind, solar, and energy storage technologies. Notably, its portfolio includes several solar parks and a battery storage initiative under development in Teiuș.
Looking towards the future, Eurowind plans to invest around €300 million annually in Romania through 2030. This investment strategy aims to diversify its portfolio further, targeting up to 1 GW across wind, solar, and energy storage technologies.
